The 2023 Rogue Invitational will once again be held in the greater Austin, Texas area at Dell Diamond, with three days of competition scheduled from October 27 - 29, 2023. The fifth annual Invitational will once again feature a men’s and women’s individual CrossFit competition, a Legends showcase, a 10-man Strongman competition. The 2022 Invitational included three (and a half) days of action from October 27 - 30. In the CrossFit ranks, the leaderboard was in regular flux all weekend, as defending champ Justin Medeiros was pushed to his limits by experienced challengers Patrick Vellner, Jeffrey Adler, Chandler Smith, and Roman Khrennikov. In the end, it took the final reps of the final event, Heavy Grace, before Justin could officially celebrate yet another individual men’s title. Meanwhile, on the women’s side, it was the veteran Laura Horvath (3rd place finisher at the 2022 CrossFit Games) who confidently moved to the front of the pack, becoming the first person to win four straight events at the Invitational. Things got considerably closer during Sunday’s final three events, though, as Laura, like Justin, didn't seal her victory over Annie Thorisdottir and Emma Lawson until Heavy Grace was in the books. Both Medeiros and Horvath took home over $218,000 in prize money. The second annual Strongman competition was also back in Round Rock, and featured six challenges highlighted by a couple new massive Rogue-designed implements: the Tower of Power and the Rogue-a-Coaster. Defending champion Martins Licis memorably beat out Oleksii Novikov a year ago in the final stone lifting event, but this time around, it was Oleksii who solidified his first Invitational title on the Stones Over Hitching Post, finishing just 1.5 points ahead of Texas native Trey Mitchell in the overall standings. Mitchell Hooper won a pair of events on his way to a third place finish, Licis finished 4th (highlighted by a win in the Rogue-a-Coaster), and the impressive youngster Pavlo Nakonechnyy placed 5th, wowing the fans with his win in the Tower of Power. For even more feats of strength, our Rogue Record Breaker challenges returned on Sunday, exhibiting unique talent across multiple strength disciplines. Highlights included the long-awaited return of Hafthor Bjornsson, who broke his own record in the 56LB Weight Over Bar, as well as the shattering of WRs in the Replica Dinnie Stone Hold (Mitchell Hooper) and Thor’s Hammer Deadlift (Kevin Faires).
