AUSTIN (Austin Fitness Community) – Austin has once again earned national recognition as one of the healthiest and most active cities in the United States. According to the 2025 American Fitness Index®, published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Elevance Health Foundation, Austin ranked #2 among America's 100 largest cities, reinforcing what many locals have known for years: fitness isn't just an activity here - it's a way of life.

The annual American Fitness Index evaluates cities using more than 30 health and community indicators, including physical activity, obesity rates, access to parks, recreational facilities, walkability, bike infrastructure, and public health initiatives. Austin's strong performance reflects both the healthy habits of its residents and the city's continued investment in making active lifestyles accessible to everyone.

What makes Austin stand out isn't simply the number of gyms or fitness studios - it's the culture that surrounds them. From sunrise runs around Lady Bird Lake and hikes through the Barton Creek Greenbelt to packed yoga classes, CrossFit gyms, martial arts academies, climbing facilities, and strength training communities, opportunities to stay active are woven into nearly every corner of the city.

Austin's year-round outdoor lifestyle also plays a significant role. With hundreds of parks, miles of hike-and-bike trails, and destinations like Barton Springs Pool and Zilker Park, residents have countless opportunities to exercise outside. Whether it's running, cycling, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply walking the trails, Austin's natural landscape encourages movement long after people leave the gym.

The city's fitness community extends far beyond workouts. Every week, local running clubs, cycling groups, pickleball leagues, recreational sports, wellness events, and charity races bring thousands of Austinites together. This sense of community has helped create an environment where people of all ages and fitness levels can find support, accountability, and motivation.

Austin has also become a hub for health and wellness businesses. Boutique fitness studios, recovery centers, physical therapy clinics, nutrition companies, sports performance facilities, and wellness startups continue to flourish alongside independently owned gyms that have become staples of their neighborhoods. Together, they have built an ecosystem that attracts athletes, entrepreneurs, and health-conscious individuals from across the country.

As Austin continues to grow, preserving this culture of movement, wellness, and community will be more important than ever. If the city's momentum is any indication, Austin isn't just one of the fittest cities in America today - it's setting the standard for what a healthy, connected community can look like tomorrow.
